Well, it wasn't exactly a stellar turnout but we had a good ride.
Conditions were good, slight wind from various directions but warm and no rain or storms like the last TT.

Mark Dontigny  22:21
Jay Gaunt       22:24

Next Island Route 10mile TT is March 2010.

The Aug. TT started with the potential of being a good one.  Very little wind, warm but humid.  Just before the start there was a small rumble of thunder.  Just before the levee coming into Lock Haven, a localized thunderstorm with strong head winds hit.  It made for very tough going the ½ mile before the turn around.  But OH, after the turn around, we were FLYING!!!  It was scary bike handling on TT bikes with the wind blowing you on the bike.  Disc wheels were particularly scary.  But it made for very fast times if you stayed up and on the bike…right Christine?

SVVC Aug. Time Trial

850 , humid, about 1-2 mph wind from WNW made for hardly any head wind going out. Then 25 mph wind from W – WSW with rain (and hail, right Christine?) for very strong head wind last ½ mile coming into Lock Haven and significant tail wind going back.

Pam SVVC                       25:08         23.87

Christine SVVC                No Time**

** Christine, questioning why the rest of us didn’t have a healthy respect for lightning, was last seen hunkered down in the fetal position in a roadside ditch, her steel framed bike safely thrown 100 ft. away.  She also reported being pelted by hail (though none of the rest of us felt any hail…interesting).

For info I think the course record is 21:31 by Mark Dontigny.

I felt like a "storm chaser" on the Weather Channel!  YES, it WAS hail...not large....but HAIL that was hitting me.  I did start LAST so hit the storm at a different point than the other-fast times!  These TT people are nothing short of CRAZY!  I admit, I felt MUCH more vulnerable to a lightning strike on my steel frame....MAYBE one of these DIEHARDS would have sought refuge if they weren't riding carbon or aluminum!  SAFETY FIRST!

There was a bit of a hard wind that affected the times somewhat at the monthly TT.  Still a good showing for those that came and pushed the pace.

10 individuals braved the cold temperatures, drizzle and wind to suffer through the first club TT of the 2009 season.  The going was hard especially into the head wind after the 5 mile turn around.  Excellent job folks, given the conditions!
